Interview Hoshigai Suisei| Exhibition "SUISEI ARCHIVES"

――The exhibition "SUISEI ARCHIVES" was held at PARCO FACTORY (7F of Ikebukuro PARCO Main Building). This is the second exhibition at PARCO FACTORY since the Midnight Grand Orchestra, a unit with TAKU INOUE, and this is the first individual to be exhibited at Hoshigai. What was your impression of visiting the venue?

Originally, I saw the state of the venue with photos, but I was very impressed when I actually went there. On the wall of the passage ("EXIT") that leads to the last exit, everyone's messages (written by visitors and related creators) were lined up. I was surprised and happy because I only saw the wall in a straight state before the event.

――Hoshigai has always valued working in various places beyond the boundaries of two and three dimensions, but this exhibition seems to be one of them.

I thought, "I wonder if our existence is spreading little by little," and when people who came to PARCO suddenly passed in front of the exhibition, I would be happy if they were interested in "I'm doing this." During this period, I was surprised to see that I changed the exterior wall lighting of Ikebukuro PARCO to blue in my image color. Parco is really blue!

――Please let me know if there is an exhibition part that was particularly impressive.

I was very impressed by the message that everyone in the last passage wrote. Also, in the first area, the face recognition space ("ENTRANCE") where stars reside in the eyes of those who came, is also very interesting as a system. I thought, "Can you do this?"

――“Wind Breaker,” “Spy x Family,” “Bocchi Za Rock!” The pre-exhibition "KIREIGOTO THEATER" of the MV of "Beautiful Things" produced by CloverWorks, known for its animation production, is also a topic. This song is the first song written by Hoshigai.

Until now, I have been writing lyrics several times, but this is my first time in charge of composition, and I composed on a tripod with TAKU INOUE (who was in charge of arrangement). In fact, even after the completion, I wasn't confident at all, "I think I can do better, but there is a deadline for recording the album, so far.……"But it's also a song that I created while struggling with, "Is this the maximum value now?" CloverWorks added a wonderful MV to such a song, and we were able to release it in advance at the exhibition hall, and many people said, "It was very good." “I wonder if you put another color in it. I think it was good."

――You can also ask professionals for all the music production, but thinking "I want to do it myself!" I feel like an episode like Hoshigai.

That's right. The fun thing is that I want to do anything (laughs). At first it was really hard. I don't know how to do it, I don't know how to proceed with the code, and what to do.…… Originally, I was eager to put the song I composed on the 3rd album, but the actual work did not go well at all, and "Is it still?" "?" And the first thing I twisted out was a rustic phrase ("I don't like the mouth that spit out beautiful things, so I sing songs"). When I gave it to TAKU INOUE, he made a track saying, "I'll do my best," and then spread the song further from there. It's also a song that I made thanks to Inotaku, but I myself understood a lot because I actually composed it, and I thought, "I want to do it again."

――Does it mean that you may still be able to listen to the songs composed by Hoshigai?

“I want to do my best!”

――The key visuals of this exhibition "SUISEI ARCHIVES" are linked to the MV of such "Beautiful Things" and the world view. Tell me about this idea too.

The scene of the beginning of the "Beautiful Things" MV, which will be exhibited in advance at the venue, is the platform of a fictitious station that homages the station along the Toei Oedo Line. Therefore, the exhibition "SUISEI ARCHIVES" itself also encompasses the keyword "train", which became the key visual for this time. At the time of the MV production, I told the director from here that "I put this feeling in the song", and from there I picked up various thoughts.

――As a result, it became an MV that visualized the message of the song "If you give up, it's over there," which appeared in the past.

That's right. Later, I gave you the text. I was asked a question, so I told you about the content of the song, the background of my activities, and what kind of thoughts you felt. I dive further from there.

――By the way, do you have any memories of Ikebukuro PARCO, which was the stage of the exhibition?

The best thing to remember is that you met your favorite brand. I met at PARCO in Ikebukuro and thought it was cute.

――Yes, it's a place where you can meet what you like. I think Hoshigai is interested in various kinds of creatives such as singing, illustrations, and video editing. Please let me know if you think that you have influenced your personality and way of thinking from childhood.

There was a world of the Internet, so I think I'm there now. I've been touching the Internet since I was really young, but the Internet has become a place where people who are usually referred to as ordinary people can play an active part, or a place where creative can be transmitted to the world Isn't it? I admired the people I have seen, and thought, "I want to do it myself!", triggered me to start my activities. I was originally from the countryside, and there are really few people around me. No matter what I did, I spent my time in an environment where there were not many people to see in the first place. But when you open the Internet, there is a stage where many people can see, and there are really many people working there. That's amazing, funny, I've been thinking since then.

――Seeing the activities of various people through the Internet, I also wanted to stand on the stage.

I've been listening to online music and vocaloids since then. In fact, I'm asking people who have been listening to them for their own songs now, so I think that my longing started from there. It's now normal for an artist to do not only music but also various things, but when I saw people who were active on the Internet at the time, I said, "It's amazing that people who can do that and this can do it. Maybe I want to do it too!”

――Do you have any aesthetics or beliefs that you value since you actually started your activities?

What I always say is "doing activities for myself." In my case, for example, music is not created for someone, but first of all, I value the heart of "because I am fun" and "because I want to express this" and "because I want to express this". Of course, it's great for someone, but if that's all, I think that's what I really want to do will break. "Because I'm like this" has always been cherished.

――However, it is sometimes difficult to get through yourself. Why did you keep doing it all the time?

There were various types of members in the same Jolo Live office, and it may have been great to support each other. "This child is such a child and has such charm, but I'm like this," I sometimes get to notice myself.

――Please tell us about the moments you can't forget in your past activities.

As you can see in the part of "WORDS OF SUISEI" of this exhibition, it is a live show (AZKi 1st Live "The Shitest Start") that shows that I will enter Inoka Music for the first time. At that time, it was a surprise appearance without prior notice, and it was the opening act of AZKi-chan's live performance in the same office, so perhaps there were many fans of AZKi-chan, "I decided to belong to Innonaka Music. Let me sing a song!” At that time, I don't know if I was a fan of AZKi-chan or who became my fan, but everyone made the penlight color blue in my image color. I still remember that scene very much. At that time, I was very nervous because I had no live experience, and I thought, "I'm sure it's away space." Nevertheless, I have a very impressed memory that I was welcomed warmly.

――It was a moment when Hoshigai might have moved the hearts of many people. Last year, we also appeared in PARCO’s corporate message “SPECIAL IN YOU.” What kind of impression do you have at PARCO?

For me, PARCO was like a part of everyday life that I saw in various places, but as I actually got involved in the work, I was able to know the backside in a good sense, such as knowing the enthusiasm for the staff's planning. It has become a special place for me, and I'm glad that some of them have been named.

――In the first place, the message "SPECIAL IN YOU" (= special to everyone) may be linked to what VTuber has been sending.

That's right. During "SPECIAL IN YOU." I appeared on the "SUPER DOMMUNE" program, but I thought that the thoughts and passion for distribution were amazing, and my existence as a VTuber like me was also interesting as one of the diversity as an artist. This is how you open up to the exhibition. I'm very happy to see many people actually visit and see it.
